Prakriti Assessment

In Ayurveda, everyone is born with a unique constitution, called Prakriti: a stable mix of the three doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, that shapes your build, digestion, sleep, temperament and how you respond to food, weather and stress. Knowing your Prakriti helps tailor diet, routine and treatment to you.

What Prakriti Means in Practice

  • Vata-predominant people tend to be lean and quick, with variable appetite and sleep, and are more prone to dryness, stiffness and anxiety when out of balance.
  • Pitta-predominant people tend to have a strong appetite and sharp focus, feel the heat, and are more prone to acidity, inflammation and irritability when out of balance.
  • Kapha-predominant people tend to be steady and strong, with slower digestion, and are more prone to weight gain, congestion and lethargy when out of balance.

Most people are a combination of two doshas. Prakriti is not a diagnosis and not “good” or “bad”: it is a description of your natural tendencies.

Precautions & Safety

A Prakriti assessment describes tendencies; it does not diagnose or rule out disease. If you have symptoms, they need proper assessment, and any medical condition should continue to be managed with your doctor.

How the Assessment Is Done
  1. A structured questionnaire about lifelong traits: body build, skin and hair, appetite, digestion, sleep, energy, memory and temperament.
  2. An examination by the doctor, including pulse, tongue and physical features.
  3. A discussion of the results and practical guidance on food, daily routine, exercise and seasonal care suited to your constitution.
What Research Says

Researchers have found measurable differences between Prakriti types. A genome-wide study found genetic variations that grouped people by Prakriti [1], machine-learning analysis of physical traits recovered distinct Prakriti clusters [2], and studies have linked Prakriti types to differences in gut and oral microbiome [3] and to cardiovascular risk markers [4].

At the same time, the evidence has real limits. A 2025 critical review found that no Prakriti assessment tool yet fully meets accepted standards of scale validation [5], and self-reported constitution questionnaires have shown limited reliability [6]. We therefore use Prakriti as a guide for personalising care, combined with the doctor’s examination, not as a laboratory test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my Prakriti change?

In Ayurveda your Prakriti is considered fixed from birth. What changes is your current state of balance (Vikriti), which is assessed separately.

Is an online dosha quiz the same?

No. Online quizzes rely only on self-report, which research shows can be unreliable. A clinical assessment adds the doctor’s examination and questions.

What will I take away?

A summary of your constitution and practical guidance on diet, routine, exercise and seasonal care suited to it.
