Panchakarma for Women
Ayurveda has a long tradition of care for women’s health. Selected Panchakarma procedures may be used for menstrual, hormonal and fertility-related concerns, always after a careful assessment and alongside your gynaecologist’s care where needed. Care is led by Dr. Hemlata Soni, BAMS, with a particular focus on women’s health.

- Uttara Basti: a specialised gynaecological procedure studied in primary dysmenorrhoea [4], done only by trained specialists in suitable cases
- Multi-stage programmes combining cleansing, palliative and nourishing phases, studied in subfertility with PCOS [5]
Who It May Suit
- Painful or irregular periods
- PCOS / PCOD, as part of a wider plan (see PCOS / PCOD)
- Preparing for conception, after medical assessment (see Fertility Support)
- Perimenopausal symptoms, where gentle therapies may help
Precautions & Safety
Panchakarma procedures such as Vamana, Virechana and most Basti are not done during pregnancy. Tell the doctor if you might be pregnant. Procedures are planned around your menstrual cycle. Heavy bleeding, bleeding between periods or after menopause, severe pelvic pain, or difficulty conceiving after 12 months (6 months if over 35) need gynaecological assessment.

What the Evidence Shows
The studies above are mostly small, single-centre and often without control groups. They suggest potential benefit but cannot yet confirm it. A literature review of Ayurvedic herbal medicines in female reproductive health reaches a similar conclusion: promising, but in need of better-quality research [6].
Prepared by the AyurSoul Healthcare team from the published research listed below. Medical review by Dr. Hemlata Soni, BAMS is in progress. This page is for education and does not replace individual medical advice. Medical disclaimer.
