Psychological Assessment
A psychological assessment is a structured way to understand how mood, worry, stress, sleep and daily life are affecting you. Our Clinical Psychologist offers it in English and Hindi.
It helps you understand what is happening and plan the next step, such as counselling, a doctor’s review or Ayurvedic care. It complements your medical and psychiatric care; it does not replace it.

- Clinical interview. A conversation about your symptoms, sleep, work, family life, past illness and any earlier mental-health care.
- Rating scales. Short standard questionnaires that measure symptoms such as low mood, worry or stress. They help track change over time, but they are not a pass or fail test.
- Feedback and a plan. The psychologist explains the findings in plain language and agrees a plan with you. We explain fees before you begin; only the first Ayurvedic consultation is free.
Who It Suits
- People with persistent low mood, worry, burnout or poor sleep that affects daily life
- People whose headaches, stomach upset or tiredness may have a stress link
- People who want to know whether counselling or a psychiatric review is needed
- People already having Ayurvedic care who want to know whether a psychological assessment would add to it (see Mind-Body Assessment for the combined approach)
Who Should Not Wait for an Assessment
If you are in crisis or thinking of harming yourself, call Tele-MANAS 14416 (free, 24×7) or 112 now.
Do not wait for an appointment if you have thoughts of ending your life or harming yourself or someone else, hearing voices or seeing things others do not, severe confusion, very little need for sleep with racing thoughts or reckless behaviour, or unusual thoughts after childbirth, including thoughts of harming your baby. For these, call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department now. An assessment is not the right first step.
Precautions & When to See a Doctor
- Do not stop or change prescribed medicines, including antidepressants, anti-anxiety or sleep medicines, because of this assessment or any Ayurvedic advice.
- Tell us about all medicines, supplements and herbs you take, including any liver problem, so we can check for interactions. Check with us before starting any herb if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Tell us about alcohol or drug use, which can worsen mood and sleep.
- See a doctor promptly if symptoms keep returning, get worse, or affect eating, sleep, work or relationships.

Confidentiality
We explain the limits of confidentiality before the first session. In general, what you share stays private, except where the law requires disclosure or someone is at serious risk of harm.
What It Is Not
- It does not involve prescribing medicines.
- It is not, on its own, a psychiatric diagnosis. If one is needed or medicine may help, we refer you to a psychiatrist.
What the Evidence Shows
We have not found a study of this exact service, so we cannot say how much a psychological assessment improves symptoms. The two studies below are related, not direct tests of this service.
A first study from Sri Lanka measured anxiety, depression and stress in people receiving Ayurvedic treatment for different health issues. It found high distress in most patients and urged a biopsychosocial approach, which looks at body, mind and social life together, in assessment and care [1]. It describes distress and does not test whether an assessment helps.
A new Ayurveda-based anxiety scale showed promising reliability and validity, but it is not yet an established measure [2]. Our assessment uses standard questionnaires and rating scales, not this Ayurvedic scale.

Is a psychological assessment a diagnosis?
Not on its own. It helps us understand your symptoms and plan the next step. A psychiatric diagnosis or medicine comes from a psychiatrist, and we refer you when needed.
Will I be given medicines?
No. This service does not involve prescribing medicines. Keep taking any medicine your own doctor has prescribed.
Can I have the assessment in Hindi?
Yes. Our Clinical Psychologist works in English and Hindi.
Does Ayurvedic care replace psychiatric care?
No. Ayurvedic care is complementary to psychiatric, medical and specialist care. It does not replace them.
