Ayurvedic name: Agni / Koshtha programme

Panchakarma for Digestive Health

Ayurveda places digestion (Agni) at the centre of health. For long-standing digestive problems such as acidity, bloating, constipation or irritable bowel syndrome, a Panchakarma programme aims to reset digestion through careful cleansing, a graded recovery diet and lasting changes to how and when you eat.

  • Personal diet and routine guidance afterwards

Who It May Suit

  • Irritable bowel syndrome, alongside your gastroenterologist’s care
  • Digestive problems linked to weight gain or metabolic issues

Precautions & Safety

What the Evidence Shows
  • Virechana in obese patients reduced Escherichia coli colonisation, which the researchers linked to improvement in gut dysbiosis [1].
  • A randomised trial of a whole-system Ayurveda protocol in irritable bowel syndrome reported improvements in abdominal pain and stool pattern [2].
  • In a randomised trial comparing Ayurvedic nutrition with conventional nutritional therapy including a low-FODMAP diet in IBS, there were no significant differences between the groups on secondary outcomes, and both approaches were safe [3].
  • Observational studies report improvement in ulcerative colitis with Ayurvedic treatment [4, 5], but these were not randomised.
