Chronic Disease Management
Living with a long-term condition, such as diabetes, high cholesterol, thyroid problems, arthritis or irritable bowel syndrome, is about more than medicines. Ayurvedic care can add personalised diet, routine, stress management and, where suitable, herbal medicines and therapies, alongside the treatment your doctor prescribes.

What Research Says
Evidence varies by condition:
- Type 2 diabetes: a randomised trial of a whole-system Ayurvedic protocol suggested benefit for people with higher starting HbA1c [1], but a Cochrane review concluded that small sample sizes and methodological weaknesses prevent definite conclusions about Ayurvedic treatments for diabetes [2].
- Prediabetes: a randomised trial reported better results with a cleansing (Vamana) approach than medicines alone [3].
- High cholesterol: a meta-analysis found moderate to high-level evidence that guggulu, garlic and black cumin are moderately effective [4].
- Hypothyroidism: an add-on whole-system Ayurveda protocol improved TSH in people not fully controlled on levothyroxine in a randomised trial [5].
- Irritable bowel syndrome: a randomised trial of a whole-system Ayurveda protocol reported improvements in abdominal pain and stool pattern [6].
Most of these studies are small, so we present Ayurvedic care as a complement to medical treatment, never a replacement.
